About me

Alex is a Dance Movement Therapist, Somatic Movement Educator, counselor and consultant;

I grew up in the bush throughout SE Australia; I spent a lot of time outside exploring, climbing, following animal tracks and nesting in natural places. This was time well spent sensing, moving and dreaming in nature; this love and interest has continued throughout my life.

I learnt some ballet and creative dance as a kid, but really laid down my love of Dance in the late 1990s/ 2000s as part of the vibrant improvised Dance World in Melbourne; where I studied with such greats as Al Wunder and Alice Cummins.

Meanwhile my studies and research in Anthropology and Neuroscience led logically and intuitively to studying Dance Movement Therapy; this path was also inspired by my personal experience of recovering from massive physical trauma (1999) through dance; and subsequently led to my other twin love of Yoga which I have also studied for over 25 years.

I moved to NT in 2004 and was immediately captured by the incredible landscapes here and the closeness and connections one can find in a smaller community.  I went on to complete a Grad. Dip in Psychology; and have worked in diverse areas in the NT to do with health, mental health and wellbeing, including counselling, research, policy, and community development.  More recently I have focused on understanding and contributing to conversations around trauma and understanding intergenerational trauma.

I have greatly enjoyed counselling roles working with diverse cultural populations and age groups; and due to requests and demand for more body-based approaches have returned to offering Dance Therapy as a central focus of my work.
